Pokemon-Like RPG With 'Very Positive' Reviews Drops Below $1 on Steam

Pokemon-like role-playing game Nexomon: Extinction has received a massive discount on Steam, with Valve’s storefront currently offering it for just $0.99. Steam users have until late September 2025 to take advantage of this newly launched deal.

Nexomon: Extinction is a creature-capturing RPG that launched mere months after Pokemon Sword and Shield, debuting for PC and consoles in late August 2020. Developed by Canadian studio VEWO Interactive, it riffs on the classic monster-catching formula by offering a large world filled with nearly 400 monsters to obtain and use in turn-based battles.

Nexomon: Extinction Drops to Lowest-Ever Price on Steam

Nexomon: Extinction was recently treated to a 95% discount on Steam, dropping to $0.99 for the first time ever. The sale kicked off on Saturday, September 20, and though it’s officially labeled as one of Steam’s “daily deals,” it’s scheduled to run for over a week, until September 29. Prior to this ongoing offer, the lowest price for VEWO’s Pokemon-like RPG was $1.99—a mark it reached only twice, both times in 2025. At 95% off, the latest Nexomon: Extinction deal offers $19 worth of savings.

Much like the RPGs that inspired it, Nexomon: Extinction features a variety of regions for players to explore and get lost in. Its expansive world is one of the game’s most frequently praised aspects in both player and professional reviews, along with its distinctive art style and a roster of 381 monsters. Nexomon: Extinction launched to largely favorable buzz, as highlighted by its “Fair” rating on OpenCritic, with an average score of 72 and a 62% reviewer recommendation rate. Over on Steam, the RPG boasts over 1,300 “Very Positive” user reviews as of late September 2025.

New Nexomon: Extinction Deal Is Steam-Only

The ongoing Nexomon: Extinction deal appears to have materialized in a vacuum. The first Nexomon game, released in 2017, isn’t on sale right now, thus retailing for its regular price of $9.99. The PlayStation and Xbox versions of Nexomon: Extinction haven’t followed the Steam discount either, and neither has the game’s Switch port. However, console players can always opt for the Nexomon + Nexomon: Extinction – Complete Collection, which bundles both of VEWO’s RPGs for $24.99—$5 cheaper than purchasing the two games separately.

Based on VEWO’s recent track record, Nexomon: Extinction is likely to go on sale at least once more before the end of 2025, though it remains unclear whether the 99-cent price will return in the immediate future. Looking more broadly, fans of monster-catching games won’t have to wait long for the genre’s standard-bearer to return, with Pokemon Legends: Z-A set to launch on October 16 for the Switch and Switch 2.
