Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey will be free to download on PS4 later this week as part of Sony’s newly revealed Play At Home initiative.
Sony Interactive president and CEO Jim Ryan unveiled the initiative earlier today (thanks Hollywood Reporter), explaining that Play At Home will consist of two components: free games “to help keep the PlayStation community entertained at home” during the coronavirus outbreak, and the establishment of a $10 million USD fund designed to help smaller independent game studios “who may be experiencing financial difficulties continue building great experiences for all gamers”.
Details of the fund will be revealed at a later date, but Sony has already announced its first batch of Play At Home games – Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey – which will be free to download on the PlayStation Store from 8pm PT, Wednesday 15th April in the US, and 4am, Thursday 16th April in the UK.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection gathers the first three titles in developer Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed, globe-trotting Uncharted series – that’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception – meaning you’re getting a lot of top-class pulpy action for the princely sum of nowt.
Sony’s second free offering – ThatGameCompany’s hugely influential Journey – is no slouch either of course, and was positively showered with praise on its release in 2012.
Journey, if you’ve yet to experience its restrained pleasures, charts the unwavering desert pilgrimage of a nameless, red-scarfed protagonist toward a distant mountain, forever visible on the horizon. What follows is something akin to a puzzle platformer, but its masterful audio-visual presentation and carefully considered mechanics work in tight unison to deliver an experience that’s simply unforgettable, if you’re a fan of sand.
