PSG won the Champions League for the first time in 2024-25 despite losing Mbappe before the start of the campaign on a free transfer to Real Madrid. Mbappe was expected to take La Liga by storm following his transfer but ended the campaign without a major trophy and then had to watch his former side crowned European champions.

Mbappe was quick to congratulate PSG after their win and has since insisted he was right to leave the club when he did. Al-Khelaifi has also now said he does not regret losing Mbappe as he reflected on a first Champions League title for the club.

WHAT AL-KHELAIFI SAID

Al-Khelaifi told C à Vous: "I don’t have any regrets [about Mbappé leaving]. I thank Kylian and [Lionel] Messi, Neymar, Zlatan [Ibrahimovic]. They have all been very important for the club. We were lucky this year, without Kylian, but I wish him all the best for the future at Real Madrid, so long as he’s not playing against us."

Mbappe will now be aiming to win his first major title at Real Madrid at the Club World Cup, but could potentially come up against PSG. Los Blancos face Al-Hilal, Pachuca and RB Salzburg in the group stages, while PSG are due to play Atletico Madrid, Botafogo, and the Seattle Sounders.
